Chi-town

So its been a few days (or weeks) since the last post, mainly because I've been on a little break to Chicago. As for the drinking scene there, one word: rock-tacular. I'm a big proponent of Denver's drinking scene (as are others, apparently), but Chicago seems to do it right, consistently. More to come...

What are your thoughts on Denver being listed as the "drunkest" city in the United States? Is that a positive? Negative? Obviously it can't be all good since that is based on the number of drunk driving accidents/deaths per year, per capita. However, surely that also means that we're a great town to slam one back in...no? Could that test also be skewed by the altitude, or possibly the large number of horrid drivers living in Denver?

Can't be good, right? Everybody like to tip one back, but lets face it, that Mens Health award was based on some pretty ugly stuff: incidence/prevalence of liver disease, drunk driving stats, etc. Really poor. Of course, not sure if that qualifies Denver as the drunkest city, per se, or the one with the worst drunks (in which case, C Springs deserves some dubious recognition). I'm guessing if anything is throwing off those stats, it must be the god-awful drivers we seem to cultivate here.

Drunkest city in the United States? PLEASE. That's like being named the most violent city in . . . Canada. How bad can it be? The U.S. was raised on Puritan ideals and values. We even banned drinking altogether for several years. So this notoriety has very little meaning, given the context. Now, if you could find the drunkest city in, say, Ireland--that would be worth reporting. And visiting. Who's with me?
